Scripps Networks Interactive makes leadership changes at TVN in Poland 2017.01.13

Knoxville, Tenn., USA - January 12, 2017 - Scripps Networks Interactive (Nasdaq: SNI) today announced that Chairman, President & CEO Kenneth W. Lowe will be appointed to the role of Chair of the Supervisory Board of TVN, the Warsaw-based, multi-platform media company that was acquired by Scripps Networks in July 2015. In a parallel move, President of Scripps Networks International Jim Samples, who has been leading TVN since July 2016, has been appointed President of TVN's management board with day-to-day oversight of the company. Samples, who has been leading TVN on an interim basis since July 2016, will continue as President of Scripps Networks Interactive's international operations.

Scripps Networks Interactive (Nasdaq: SNI) today announced that Chairman, President & CEO Kenneth W. Lowe will be appointed to the role of Chair of the Supervisory Board of TVN, the Warsaw-based, multi-platform media company that was acquired by Scripps Networks in July 2015.

In a parallel move, President of Scripps Networks International Jim Samples, who has been leading TVN since July 2016, has been appointed President of TVN's management board with day-to-day oversight of the company.

Samples
, who has been leading TVN on an interim basis since July 2016, will continue as President of Scripps Networks Interactive's international operations.

The moves follow a very successful year across the TVN portfolio.

In 2016, TVN increased its market share by 2.7% in the commercial group (A16-49), achieving the biggest growth among Poland's big four broadcasters.

TVN's broadcast channel is currently the second most-watched channel in Poland with 12.75% share of all adults 16-49, and the number one network in Poland's biggest cities.

Ratings are driven by evergreen entertainment formats, such as – ‘Kuchenne Rewolucje', -‘Mam Talent', -‘MasterChef' and –‘MasterChef Junior', as well as new shows including drama series –‘Druga Szansa' reality show –‘Azja Express', and the docu-soap –‘19+'.

Jim Samples is President of International for Scripps Networks Interactive.

In this role, he leads the company’s international division with operations in 175 countries and territories across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Samples is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TVN, a leading media company in Poland and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scripps Networks Interactive.

Samples also manages joint venture relationships with Canada’s Corus Entertainment and UKTV – the fastest-growing commercial TV network in the UK.

Under Samples’ leadership, Scripps Networks has significantly expanded its international distribution footprint.

In addition to TVN, Samples has completed other key acquisition targets for Scripps Networks including the Travel Channel across EMEA and Asia-Pacific, as well as the Asian Food Channel.

Samples’ international team successfully launched HGTV in Asia-Pacific, making the network the region’s first channel dedicated to the home.

Food Network’s launch in Latin America and Australia marked the company’s first channel in each region.

Scripps Networks Interactive also distributes Cooking Channel, DIY Network and Fine Living.

Before leading the international division, Samples served as President of HGTV from 2007-2011.

During his tenure, HGTV ranked every year as the No. 1 network among upscale female viewers in the U.S.

At HGTV, Samples broadened the network’s programming slate by introducing a series of hits shows including Love It or List It, Property Brothers and Kitchen Cousins, while greatly expanding the network’s hit franchise House Hunters.

He also partnered with the consumer products team to create new brand extensions including an extensive HGTV-branded product line, as well as HGTV Magazine, the No. 1 home magazine in the U.S.

Prior to joining Scripps Networks, Samples spent nearly 14 years with Turner Broadcasting System in various leadership capacities spanning affiliate sales, marketing, programming and digital media.

He started his career at Turner in international business development and held senior leadership positions in the Latin America region before leading Cartoon Network Worldwide, where he is credited for launching Adult Swim, the leading late-night network for young men in the U.S.

He also joined forces with 20th Century Fox to put Family Guy back into production as the anchor for the Adult Swim line-up.

A native of Atlanta, Samples has a bachelor’s degree from Presbyterian College and a master’s degree in international business studies from the University of South Carolina.

He is Chairman of the Board of UKTV and serves on the boards of TVN Foundation, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and Presbyterian College.

Samples is based in Knoxville, Tennessee, with his wife and two daughters.

Ken Lowe is Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive, a leading global lifestyle media provider for television, the Internet and other media platforms.

Previously, he was President and CEO of The E.W. Scripps Company from 2000 until 2008, when Scripps Networks Interactive became a separate, publicly traded company.

Prior to 2000, Lowe was Chairman and CEO of Knoxville-based Scripps Networks.

He built the company into one of the world's fastest growing and most successful creators of unique brands for television and the Internet.

He founded and launched HGTV in 1994; oversaw the acquisition and transformation of the Food Network into an American pop culture icon; presided over the launches of the DIY Network and the Cooking Channel as well as the acquisitions of the Travel Channel in 2009 and Great American Country television network in 2004.

Since 2009, he has directed the company’s rapid expansion as a global media company, including the 2015 acquisition of Poland’s premier multi-platform and multi-channel media company, TVN.

Lowe also guided the development of the company’s growing portfolio of interactive content services in the food and home lifestyle categories.

The company’s media businesses now collectively engage more than 190 million consumers worldwide each month.

Lowe joined Scripps in 1980 as General Manager of the company's radio properties.

In 1988, he became Vice President of Programming, Promotion and Marketing for the company's nine network-affiliated television stations.

He began his career in radio with Southern Broadcasting in 1969 and continued with various management positions in radio and television with Harte-Hanks Broadcasting in the late 1970s.

Lowe serves on the Board of Directors for the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, The Paley Center for Media and The Cable Center.

In the past he served on the Cincinnati Business Committee and Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in radio, television and motion pictures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
