• Raytheon establishes another partnership with Polish defense industry

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) announced today that it will partner with Bumar Elektronika on the design and development of a modernized Patriot Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) antenna.

This new antenna is a key element of the advanced Patriot 360 degree radar proposed by Raytheon for Poland's medium-range air and missile defense system program named "WISLA."

The component will also be compatible with previous Patriot configurations, allowing for future upgrades of the existing worldwide Patriot radar fleet.

The initial agreement between the parties enables the respective engineering teams to begin work on defining the concept and could potentially lead to a multi-year design, development, test program and production contract.

The announcement comes two months after Raytheon and Polski Holding Obronny Sp. z o.o. (PHO) hosted a partnering conference in Warsaw, which brought together over 100 Polish suppliers and government officials during two days of active dialogue.

Raytheon is actively pursuing several other opportunities with Polish industry in preparation for the WISLA program.

The company's offer for WISLA includes the development with Polish industry of a next generation Patriot solution, which incorporates:

• A new Common Command and Control (CC2) system that offers open architecture & multi-role capability, which builds on and preserves the combat-proven functionality of Patriot and its inherent US/NATO interoperability,

• Introduction of a 360-degree multi-function radar using the latest advanced radar technology to provide unmatched performance, unprecedented operational readiness and the lowest maintenance cost and,

• The potential for integration of a new advanced Low Cost Interceptor (LCI) to further expand Patriot's ability to simultaneously fire multiple missile types to address the continuously evolving threat spectrum.

The TRS-15 Mobile Medium-Range 3D Surveillance S-Band Radar characterized by instrumented range of 240 km is dedicated to detect and automatic track up to 120 air targets to the altitude of 30 km. The planar antenna produces a cosec square transmite beam and seven fan-shaped receive beams to use the monopulse method of measurement of height. Patriot is designed with modular components allowing the system to be continually upgraded and modernized.

Today, Patriot is the only combat-proven air and missile defense system, protecting the U.S. and allied forces around the world.

Bumar Elektronika i Raytheon podejmują współpracę w celu opracowania nowej anteny IFF dla systemu Patriot, oferowanego przez firmę Raytheon w ramach programu obrony przeciwlotniczej i przeciwrakietowej średniego zasięgu Wisła.

Współpraca obu firm ma dotyczyć zaprojektowania i opracowania dla systemu Patriot zmodernizowanej anteny systemu identyfikacji swój-obcy (IFF), która jest kluczowym elementem nowoczesnego radaru systemu Patriot o polu widzenia 360 stopni.

Antena ma być jednak zgodna także z wcześniejszymi wersjami systemu Patriot, co umożliwi przyszłą modernizację gamy użytkowanych obecnie na świecie radarów tego systemu, na co pozwala modułowy charakter systemu.

Dla Bumaru może to więc być otwarciem na nowe rynki eksportowe.

System Patriot jest obecnie wykorzystywany w 12 krajach, w tym pięciu należących do NATO.

O zawarciu umowy poinformowano w kilka tygodni po konferencji na temat partnerstwa zorganizowanej w Warszawie przez Raytheon i Polski Holding Obronny.

Początkowa umowa zawarta pomiędzy stronami umożliwia zespołom inżynierów obu firm rozpoczęcie prac koncepcyjnych i może docelowo zaowocować podpisaniem wieloletniej umowy obejmującej zaprojektowanie, opracowanie, testy i produkcję anteny.

„Jesteśmy zadowoleni z rozpoczęcia tego projektu we współpracy z firmą Raytheon, ponieważ umożliwi to nam wniesienie znaczącego wkładu w proces dalszego doskonalenia systemu Patriot. Oznacza to wyraźne korzyści dla państw, które polegają na sprawdzonych możliwościach systemu Patriot” - powiedział dr Ryszard Kardasz, prezes Bumar Elektronika.
