Wolfsburg, Germany - December 27, 2013 - Since 2007, the workforce of the Volkswagen Group has grown by about 248,000 employees, representing a rise of 76 percent. This increase includes 123,000 new jobs created throughout the world and around 125,000 employees of companies newly integrated into the Group. As of the end of 2013 (figures for November 30, 2013), the Volkswagen Group has about 573,000 employees, including some 260,000 in Germany. This is more than ever before. Human Resources Board Member Dr. Neumann: Group continues to invest strongly in junior staff.

In 2007, when the Group adopted its Strategy 2018 with a new management team, the Volkswagen Group had around 325,000 employees throughout the world.
Some 573,000 people now work for the Group.

This increase of 248,000 employees includes about 123,000 newly created jobs, almost 44,000 of them in Germany.
125,000 employees came to the Group with Scania, MAN, and Porsche Holding Salzburg, as well as Porsche AG and Ducati.

As of the end of November, the Volkswagen Group employed about 260,000 people (end of 2012: 249,000) in Germany alone, with the brands Audi, MAN, Porsche, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Volkswagen Financial Services AG.

Dr. Horst Neumann was born on 26 June, 1949 in Leverkusen (Germany).
Neumann studied Economics and Social Sciences in Hamburg and Berlin from 1967 to 1973.
In 1995 he was awarded his doctorate with a thesis on "A comparison of the competitive strength of the German and Japanese car industries" and the title Dr. rer. pol. in Berlin.
In 2009 he received an honorary professorship from Tongji University, Shanghai, which has enjoyed a close scientific partnership with Volkswagen for many years.
Neumann embarked on his career in 1973 as assistant to the Berlin Senator for Economic Affairs.
From 1978 to 1994 he was employed in the economics department at the board of the IG Metall union in Frankfurt/Main, from 1983 as deputy manager.
At the same time he was a Member of the Supervisory Board of Motorenwerke Mannheim AG (1981-1986), Adam Opel AG (1985-1995) and Rasselstein AG (1986-1994).
From 1994 to 2000 Neumann was a Member of the Board of Management and Personnel Director at Rasselstein GmbH and Rasselstein Hoesch GmbH, a subsidiary of the ThyssenKrupp Group in Andernach and Neuwied.
In 2001 Neumann was appointed Member of the Board of Management and Labour Director at ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, Düsseldorf.
In July 2002 Dr. Horst Neumann was appointed Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG with responsibility for Human Resources.
With effect from 1 December, 2005 the Supervisory Board appointed him Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG and the Volkswagen brand with responsibility for Human Resources and Labour Director.
He has been responsible for Human Resources and Organization since January 2007.
