New Networking Gardens

In honour of the 10th year in the city of Barcelona, we have renamed our Networking Gardens to celebrate the essence of Barcelona – Les Ramblas.

Stop by any of our ten networking gardens to have impromptu meetings, grab a coffee and snack or just take a few moments to relax.

Our ten outdoor Networking Gardens – three located on the lower level, including a new space between Halls 3 & 5, and seven more along the Upper Walkway are great places to hold impromptu meetings, meet clients, mingle with other attendees or just grab a breath of fresh air.

Mobile Explorers Club

Known previously as the mYouth Camp, the new and improved Mobile Explorers Club is an exciting opportunity for children of Mobile World Congress attendees.

Explorers will learn new skills and be able to discover the world of mobile technology through 4 days of activities.

Register your children for this innovative programme.

The ethos of the Mobile Explorers Club is to empower children to discover their interests and hidden talents by providing motivation and basic insights to further their learning.
We want to give them an understanding of the worlds of technology and mobile, allowing them to experience some of the learnings from the show.

During the week, the children will have the opportunity to participate in a number of different activities, including a range of tech and mobile based workshops, as well as more general activities such as cooking, art and design or sports (full programme will be confirmed nearer the event).

We will also be venturing into the show to explore some of the GSMA and exhibitor activities and products.

A timetable will be in place for each day and the children will be encouraged to participate in all activities.

The activities change on a daily basis, although some will be repeated on multiple days.

There is a ‘free room’ where children can “hang out” if they prefer not to take part in a specific activity, but we are sure they will be excited to do them all!

Across the week we will deliver a core programme of activities for all activity groups.
Workshop content will include, but not limited to, the following areas:

1. Coding/software

2. App & game development and design

3. Robotics – designing & building

4. Augmented Reality demos

5. 3D Printing

6. Computing

7. Photo and video editing

Each workshop will enable children to get creative and experiment with each activity.

Specialist instructors will briefly show children the basis of each workshop (the different materials and processes) and give a demonstration.

After that, the children will be able to try out each activity for themselves, with the objective of encouraging their creativity and imagination while acquiring new knowledge.

Children will do the activities themselves, albeit always under the supervision of the instructor who will help out if needed.

There will also be some free time and sports activities to create excitement throughout the day.

Jon Fredrik Baksaas

Chairman of the GSMA

Mr. Jon Fredrik Baksaas is the Chairman of the GSMA.
He has been President and CEO of Telenor Group since June 2002.

During this period, the total number of subscriptions in Telenor Group’s mobile operations has increased from 21 million in June 2002 to approx. 179 million today; excluding VimpelCom Ltd.
Telenor Group at present has mobile operations in 13 markets and in additionally 14 markets through the ownership in VimpelCom Ltd.

Prior to becoming the President and CEO, Baksaas served as Telenor’s Deputy CEO, CFO and Executive Vice President with the overall responsibility for Telenor’s networks and communication services in Norway, one of the world’s most advanced countries in ICT usage.

Before joining Telenor in 1989, he served as CFO in Aker AS, CFO in Stolt-Nielsen Seaway and held finance related positions in Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in Norway and Japan.

Baksaas is currently a board member of the GSMA Association, Svenska Handelsbanken AB, and the Advisory Council of Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

Mr. Baksaas holds a Master of Science degree from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and has additional qualifications from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.

He is married with three children.
