London, United Kingdom - June 17, 2014 - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded a strategic framework contract by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) to provide services for their nuclear new build programme in the United Arab Emirates. The contract, the value of which has not been announced, will see AMEC provide consultancy support to ENEC for their four proposed nuclear reactors in Barakah, in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. These include a range of strategic planning services right through to specific niche nuclear engineering skills. ENEC will build a total of four nuclear energy plants by 2020, pending regulatory approvals. Units 1 & 2 are already under construction, with the first plant scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2017.

Site Management
AMEC is a partner in Nuclear Management Partners Ltd (NMP), a company owned jointly by URS, AREVA and AMEC.
NMP is the parent body organisation which owns the shares in Sellafield Limited to manage and operate the Sellafield site on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
As part of NMP, AMEC is contributing to an extensive change and delivery programme at Sellafield as part of a 17 year contract.

AMEC’s nuclear experts provide detailed Safety Analysis and Safety Case Preparation which includes analysis and coordination of thermal hydraulics, physics, fuel, containment, atmospheric release, and dose calculations analyses used in preparing and maintaining plant safety reports.
In addition, AMEC has the unique capability to provide safety analysis assessments to engineering design projects, and engineering activities relating to power plant design, operations, maintenance, and lay up.
