Poland's PGE EJ1 has selected AMEC Nuclear UK as Owner's Engineer to support the first Polish Nuclear Power Plant build project 3,000 MWe
Warsaw, Poland - July 07, 2014 - PGE EJ1 Sp. z o.o. has completed the public procurement procedure of competitive negotiations involving publication and selected the winning bid for "Providing Technical Advisor (Owner's Engineer) services to support PGE EJ1 Sp. z o.o.'s first Polish nuclear power plant development program with an installed capacity of approximately 3,000 MWe". The winning bid has been submitted by AMEC Nuclear UK Ltd. Total bid value amounts to 1,327,978,177.52 PLN net, this sum encompassing the required scope of work valued at: 204,601,176.23 PLN net, and the optional scope of services valued at: 1,123,377,001.29 PLN net.

City of Madrid Implements IBM's Large Smarter Cities Environmental Analytics Project
Madrid, Spain - July 07, 2014 - The City of Madrid and IBM (NYSE: IBM), through its subsidiary INSA, announced today the largest environmental services management project in Spain, designed to improve city life for all of Madrid's three million citizens. Using IBM's Smarter Cities technology, this initiative will help improve the delivery and efficiency of city services and provide citizens new tools to interact and communicate with the city council. The City of Madrid is one of the five most populated municipalities in Europe. The city produces one million tons of household waste and residents use some 15 million cubic meters of water every year. The city of Madrid also manages and tracks numerous assets including 1.7 million vehicles, more than 252,000 streetlights and 287,000 trees that are cared for by the city.

Qualcomm Acquires WiGig Industry Leader Wilocity and Bolsters Wi-Fi Leadership with 60 GHz Wireless for Mobile, Computing and Networking
San Diego, CA, USA - July 02, 2014 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that it has taken two major steps to enable the industry to deliver multi-gigabit wireless with 60 GHz technology for mobile, computing and networking devices. First, Qualcomm has completed its acquisition of Wilocity, a leader in development of 60 GHz wireless chipsets based on the IEEE 802.11ad standard, also known as WiGig technology. Second, the company is delivering a family of tri-band platforms that combine Qualcomm Atheros, Inc.'s Wi-Fi and WiGig solutions to significantly increase performance and enable cutting-edge wireless applications. Nawet jeśli tablica jest interaktywna, to ciągle jest to XIX-wieczny model szkoły, gdy przygotowywano dzieci do roli pracownika na taśmie, który musiał być precyzyjny, posłuszny, nijaki i postępujący zgodnie z procedurami. W XXI wieku potrzebujemy młodych ludzi, którzy są niepokorni, kreatywni, kwestionują ustalony porządek, szukają w sobie talentu, na bazie którego stworzą wspaniałe firmy zdobywające globalne rynki. TOSHIBA and GDF SUEZ Complete NuGen Deal, Europe's Largest New Nuclear Energy Project in Northwest England
London, England - June 30, 2014 - Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) and GDF SUEZ have completed a deal that will boost development of the Moorside new nuclear power project on the West Cumbria coast in northwest England - the largest, single proposed nuclear power plant construction project in Europe. The agreement sees Toshiba acquiring a 60-percent stake and GDF SUEZ retaining a 40-percent holding in NuGeneration Ltd (NuGen), the U.K.-based nuclear energy company that plans to build three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors in West Cumbria. Each reactor will take approximately four years to build. When fully operational, the Moorside site is expected to deliver around seven percent of the U.K.'s future electricity requirements. The first of three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors targeted for operation in 2024. Project to provide nearly seven percent of U.K.'s projected electricity requirements. Project is forecast to create between 14,000 and 21,000 UK jobs.

Sikorsky Awarded US Air Force Contract to Develop New Combat Rescue Helicopter
Stratford, Connecticut, USA - June 26, 2014 - Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has been awarded a U.S. Air Force contract to develop new combat search and rescue helicopters. Sikorsky will develop a derivative of the UH-60M BLACK HAWK model for the Air Force's rescue mission. The award of an estimated $1.28 billion Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD) contract includes development and integration of the rescue mission systems; delivery of four Combat Rescue Helicopters; as well as seven aircrew and maintainer training systems. Initial training of Air Force aircrew and maintainers and five Combat Rescue Helicopters are also expected to be delivered by 2020, once additional aircraft and training options are exercised. This contract is the first step in the eventual production and fielding of up to 112 aircraft with a potential value of approximately $7.9 billion.

AMEC wins consultancy contract for UAE nuclear energy programme
London, United Kingdom - June 17, 2014 - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded a strategic framework contract by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) to provide services for their nuclear new build programme in the United Arab Emirates. The contract, the value of which has not been announced, will see AMEC provide consultancy support to ENEC for their four proposed nuclear reactors in Barakah, in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. These include a range of strategic planning services right through to specific niche nuclear engineering skills. ENEC will build a total of four nuclear energy plants by 2020, pending regulatory approvals. Units 1 & 2 are already under construction, with the first plant scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2017.

Prof. Krzysztof Rybiński: Jak przez 25 lat przejedzono majątek państwowy
Warszawa - 28 czerwca 2014 - "Gdy upadał w Polsce socjalizm, mieliśmy prawie 8,5 tysiąca przedsiębiorstw państwowych. To bardzo dużo. Wypada więc zapytać, co się z nimi działo w minionych 25 latach. Według Ministerstwa Skarbu Państwa firm państwowych pozostało w 2012 roku tylko 70. Prawie 2 tysiące zlikwidowano, pozostałe sprzedano albo - najogólniej mówiąc - przekazano w zarządzanie innym podmiotom. Państwo pozbyło się olbrzymiego majątku, otrzymując w zamian gotówkę. Licząc nominalnie, wpływy z prywatyzacji w latach 1991-2012 wyniosły 147 mld złotych. W tym czasie na bazie 8,5 tys. przedsiębiorstw państwowych, poza KGHM, nie powstała żadna globalnie znana polska marka. Wśród firm, które mogą wkrótce być globalnie rozpoznawalne, są prawie wyłącznie budowane od zera firmy prywatne." - podsumował prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Rybiński, Rektor Akademii Finansów i Biznesu Vistula w Warszawie.

PGE Energia Odnawialna za 589 mln PLN uruchomi dwie kolejne farmy wiatrowe w Polsce. Realizatorami są Alstom za 336 mln PLN oraz Aldesa za 253 mln PLN
Warszawa - 26 czerwca 2014 - PGE Energia Odnawialna SA oraz konsorcjum firm Alstom Power Sp. z o.o. i Alstom Renovables Espana S.L. podpisały kontrakt o wartości 81,14 mln EUR netto, czyli około 336 mln PLN, na dostawę turbin wiatrowych o łącznej mocy 90 MW dla farmy wiatrowej Lotnisko w miejscowości Kopaniewo w województwie pomorskim. Będzie to jeden z największych projektów w polskiej energetyce wiatrowej i pierwszy zrealizowany przez Alstom. Zakres kontraktu obejmuje dostawę, montaż i uruchomienie 30 turbin wiatrowych o mocy 3 MW typu Alstom ECO110, wyposażonych w wirnik o średnicy 110 m, stalową wieżę o wysokości 90 metrów oraz system zdalnego sterowania SCADA. Ponadto PGE Energia Natury PEW podpisała z konsorcjum spółek z hiszpańskiej grupy budowlanej Aldesa kontrakt na budowę Farmy Wiatrowej Karwice (woj. zachodniopomorskie) o mocy 40 MW wraz z wyprowadzeniem mocy do linii 110 kV relacji Sianów - Sławno. Dokładna wartość kontraktu konsorcjum Aldesa Nowa Energia i Aldesa Construcciones opiewa na 253,14 mln PLN brutto. Kryterium wyboru wykonawcy była najniższa cena.

Microsoft launches intellectual property portal, the Microsoft 4Afrika IP Hub
Nairobi, Kenya - June 26, 2014 - On Thursday, Microsoft Corp. unveiled an online intellectual property (IP) portal called the Microsoft 4Afrika IP Hub, in an effort to create an IP protection culture in Africa. The IP Hub will offer developers and independent software vendors the skills and tools necessary to develop, protect and monetize their innovations. Medtronic to Acquire Covidien for $42.9 billion in Cash and Stock
Minneapolis, USA and Dublin, Ireland - June 15, 2014 - Medtronic, Inc.
