James DiCarlo to head Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT

His five-year term will begin March 1. New department head succeeds Mriganka Sur, who will lead the new Simons Center for the Social Brain at MIT.

Largest Ever Aircraft Acquisition in Europe: Norwegian purchases 222 new aircraft at value of NOK 127 billion
Oslo, Norway - January 25, 2012 - Norwegian (NAS) has today signed an agreement with both Airbus and Boeing for delivery of a total of 222 new aircraft. The order includes 122 aircraft from Boeing: 100 of the new Boeing 737 MAX8 and 22 Next-Generation 737-800. The Airbus order includes 100 Airbus A320neo. The total agreement is the largest ever in European aviation history and has a contract value at list prices of NOK 127 billion.

Pierwszy polski satelita studencki PW-Sat poleci w kosmos 9 lutego 2012
Warszawa - 27 stycznia 2012 - Już 9 lutego 2012 roku rakieta nośna Vega Europejskiej Agencji Kosmicznej ESA wyniesie w kosmos satelitę studentów Politechniki Warszawskiej PW-Sat. Zadaniem PW-Sat będzie zbadanie procesu spalania satelitów w atmosferze, co w przyszłości może posłużyć do niszczenia kosmicznych odpadków. Satelitę klasy CubeSat zbudowali członkowie Studenckiego Koła Astronautycznego i Studenckiego Koła Inżynierii Kosmicznej Politechniki Warszawskiej przy współpracy z Centrum Badań Kosmicznych PAN.
