In 2011, KGHM produced 1,260 metric tonnes of silver, which was 99 tonnes (8.5%) more than in 2010.

Such a high level of production raised KGHM to first place in the Word Silver Survey for 2011.

In last year's edition of the Word Silver Survey, KGHM held third place, but has now become the largest producer of silver in the world.
This also resulted in Poland's advancement to sixth place (in 2010 – 8th place), after Russia and Bolivia.

For many years, the top spots amongst silver producers has been dominated by three companies, one of which is KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

Only a few years ago, the undisputed leader was the Mexican company Industrial Penioles, but in 2009 it spun off the company Fresnillo, thereby dividing total silver production.

Currently Fresnillo holds third place in the ranking.
Unlike the other two producers, silver is its main product.

In the case of KGHM, as well as BHP Billiton, which holds second place in the ranking, this precious metal is a by-product from the production of other metals, such as copper and zinc.

KGHM produces high-quality, 99,99% pure silver in the form of bars and grains.

Silver in the form of bars is registered under the KGHM HG brand, and holds a certificate of registration on NYMEX as well as Good Delivery certificates issued by the London Bullion Market Association and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.

Silver is a metal with industrial applications (such as in jewelry, the electrical and electronics industries, photography) as well as being treated as an object of investment.

It is precisely this investment side of silver which has been the main cause for the spectacular increases in the price of this metal.

Investors, fearing inflation and changes in the value of the USD, as well as frequent political conflicts, deposit their savings in precious metals.

Silver was one of the best investments in recent years.

Since 2005 its average annual price has increased by nearly 500 percent, from around 7.3 USD/oz to just over 35 USD/oz last year.

The main buyers of the silver produced by KGHM are the UK, the USA and Belgium.

KGHM największym światowym producentem srebra

Polska Miedź wyprodukowała w ubiegłym roku 1.260 ton srebra, tj. o 99 ton więcej (8,5%) niż w roku 2010.
Tak wysoki poziom produkcji dał spółce pierwsze miejsce w zestawieniu Word Silver Survey w roku 2011.

W ubiegłorocznym notowaniu Word Silver Survey KGHM miał trzecią lokatę, teraz został największym, światowym producentem srebra.

Tym samym Polska awansowała na szóstą pozycję (w roku 2011 – 8 pozycja), przed Rosją i Boliwią.

Już od wielu lat wśród producentów srebra zdecydowanie dominującą pozycję mają trzy podmioty, wśród których jest KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

Jeszcze kilka lat temu bezsprzecznym liderem była meksykańska spółka Industrial Penioles, ale w 2009 roku wydzieliła ze swojej struktury spółkę Fresnillo, dzieląc tym samym ogólną produkcję srebra.

Fresnillo zajmuje obecnie trzecie miejsce w zestawieniu.
W przeciwieństwie jednak do pozostałych dwóch producentów srebro jest jej głównym produktem.

W przypadku KGHM jak również BHP Billiton, która zajęła drugie miejsce w rankingu, ten metal szlachetny jest produktem ubocznym przy produkcji innych metali, takich jak miedź lub cynk.

Srebro jest metalem skarbowym, jubilerskim oraz surowcem przemysłowym. Ze względu na bardzo dobre właściwości przewodzenia ciepła i prądu, zastosowane jest w przedmiotach codziennego użytku, np. w laptopach i telefonach komórkowych. KGHM produkuje srebro o zawartości powyżej 99,99% Ag w postaci sztabek (gąsek) oraz granulatu.

Srebro w postaci gąsek, zarejestrowane pod marką KGHM HG, posiada certyfikat rejestracji na Nowojorskiej Giełdzie Handlowej NYMEX w Nowym Jorku oraz certyfikaty Dobrej Dostawy, wystawione przez London Bullion Market Association oraz Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.

Srebro jest metalem o zastosowaniu przemysłowym (m.in. w jubilerstwie, przemyśle elektronicznym i elektrycznym, fotograficznym) jak i inwestycyjnym.

Właśnie inwestycyjny charakter srebra najbardziej przyczynił się do spektakularnych wzrostów ceny tego kruszcu.
Inwestorzy w obawie przed inflacją, wartością dolara amerykańskiego i często również konfliktami politycznymi, lokują swoje oszczędności w metalach szlachetnych.

Srebro było jedną z najlepszych inwestycji ostatnich lat.

Od 2005 roku jego średnioroczna cena wzrosła o blisko 500 proc., z ok. 7,3 USD/oz do nieco ponad 35 USD/oz w roku ubiegłym.

Głównymi odbiorcami srebra produkowanego przez KGHM są: Wielka Brytania, USA i Belgia.
