San Francisco, California, USA - September 12, 2013

PCH International's incubator program, Highway1, is delighted to announce Estimote as the winner of its Best Hardware Startup award at the TechCrunch Disrupt Conference in San Francisco.

The award, which is sponsored by Highway1 (a PCH Solutions company), recognises the most innovative hardware startup to enter the competition, and offers them a unique opportunity for an inside view of PCH's supply chain and manufacturing infrastructure in China.

The Best Hardware Startup award was presented by Brady Forrest, PCH's Vice President of Highway1, at the closing ceremony of the TechCrunch Disrupt conference on Wednesday 11th September.

Estimote was founded in Kraków, Poland, that transforms the retail experience by building a sensor-based analytics and engagement platform.

Their flagship product is Estimote Beacons: small, beautifully designed sensors that could be placed anywhere in the physical world.

Once installed, for example next to an entry door or on product shelves, they start broadcasting tiny radio signals, reporting on current retail traffic and pushing notifications to shoppers who have pre-registered for the messages.

Nominations for the award were invited via Twitter and a shortlist selected by a judging panel of PCH mentors, engineers and executives.

As recipients of the award, Estimote will receive a 5-day trip to Shenzhen, China worth US$10,000, including flights and four-star accommodation.

The Shenzhen visit will be hosted by PCH's Highway1 team (www.highway1.io ) and during the course of their stay, Estimote will visit the company's operational and manufacturing facilities and gain an insight into the skills, resources and processes currently used by some of the world's leading brands.

The knowledge acquired will assist Estimote to efficiently develop its qualified product concepts and bring them to commercial readiness.

What is an Estimote Beacon?

An Estimote Beacon is a small, wireless device, sometimes also called a 'mote'.

When placed in a physical space, it broadcasts tiny radio signals around itself.

Think about it as a very small lighthouse.

Smartphones that are in range are able to 'hear' these signals and estimate their location very precisely, as well as communicate with the beacon to exchange data and information.

Our vision

Future apps won't be installed on smartphones.
They will be installed on top of retail stores and other real world locations - like restaurants, bus stops, museums or parks.

Physical locations will interact seamlessly and communicate with people through convenient channels such as smartphones, in-store screens and future displays.

Estimote, Inc. was founded in 2012 by Jakub Krzych and Łukasz Kostka, internet entrepreneurs with a strong technology and product background.
Both graduated from top European universities.

For four years, served as a board member and as the Head of Product at AdTaily, the self-service advertising network that he co-founded and sold to the largest CE media group.

In private, a husband and father who likes to play LEGO with his three-year-old twins.

Łukasz Kostka, CTO & Co-Founder

Graduated from AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Poland with an MSc degree in computer science in control and management and, right after graduation, started his PhD research on Smart Cities.

A data Scientist and hacker who likes to mix cutting edge technology with great design to solve real world problems.

In private, a pack-light traveler and self-tracking geek.
