Microsoft and Movideo Forge Global Cloud-Based Strategic Alliance 2012.03.24

Redmond, Wash., USA and Hong Kong, China - March 22, 2012 - Microsoft Corp. and Movideo Pty Ltd. today announced a four-year strategic agreement in which Movideo will migrate its integrated online video platform to Windows Azure to drive business growth across Asia Pacific (APAC) and beyond. Windows Azure platform chosen to drive Movideo's business growth across Asia.

ASTRO has significant presence in DTH (Direct-To-Home) TV services, commercial radio and TV programming.
ASTRO, the subscription TV service began operations in 1996 with 22 channels and currently broadcasts over 119 pay-TV channels in four major languages across Malaysia and Brunei to more than 2.93 million households.
Movideo is ASTRO’s online video partner now managing the online distribution of ASTRO’s premium content online.

Movideo is the preferred choice of Asia Pacific's top TV Networks.
Media Nusantara Citra Tbk. With operations encompassing content production, content distribution, nationwide television networks, television program channels, newspaper, tabloid, and radio networks, MNC are the largest and only integrated media company in Indonesia.
MNC’s content library is the largest in Indonesia, comprising of entertainment and news content, which is increasing by more than 10,000 hours yearly.
Movideo is the chosen platform to power MNC’s new online video business plan to manage, deliver and monetise this content on connected devices throughout Indonesia and beyond.

Network Ten Australia is one of the three national FTA commercial networks.
They operate three national channels: Ten, 11 and one.
Ten partnered with Movideo in mid 2010 to relaunch its Catch up TV product.
Since doing so Ten has experienced considerable growth and has extended its online TV offering to the recently launched 11 and one channels.

Movideo is planning to take full advantage of the booming global online video market, which is forecast by AccuStream Research’s January 2012 Video Value Chain report to grow from $4.4 billion (U.S.) in 2011 to more than $10 billion (U.S.) by the end of 2014.

AccuStream forecasts that video platforms and content delivery will account for approximately 50 percent of this value chain.

“We come from an open source background and typically used a Java stack inside our environments. It is a big transition moving onto the Microsoft stack, but working closely with the Microsoft China Cloud Innovation Center, Microsoft Hong Kong office and the Microsoft Redmond product engineering teams, we are making it a smooth transition,” said Cameron Moore, chief technology officer, Movideo.
“The migration is expected to be completed in May. By migrating to Windows Azure, we can now take advantage of the added services that Windows Azure provides beyond just being infrastructure and accelerating our development road map of product features for our media customers with assurances that the scalability, redundancy and robustness of the back-end infrastructure are taken care of.”

Background

Movideo launched to market in 2010 and now services 30 customers, including Network Ten in Australia, MNC Group Indonesia, South China Morning Post Hong Kong, Reader’s Digest Singapore and Astro Group Malaysia, and is focused on the rapidly emerging markets in APAC.
