Komisja Oceny Periodyków IEEE dokonuje okresowej analizy oceny jakości istniejących tytułów pod kątem właściwych kryteriów recenzji, składu komitetów redakcyjnych i poziomu wydawniczego.

Zurada elected to top IEEE committee post


Professor Jacek M. Zurada, electrical and computer engineering, J.B. Speed School of Engineering, has been elected as chair of the IEEE TAB Periodicals Review and Advisory Committee for 2012-13.

IEEE publishes leading 150 engineering periodicals known as IEEE Transactions, Journals and Magazines.

According to the 2011 Journal of Citations Report, 16 IEEE periodicals rank among the top 20 journals in electrical and electronic engineering, 8 in the top 10 journals in telecommunications, and 6 in the top 10 journals in computer science, hardware & architecture.

Jacek M. Zurada

Jacek M. Zurada received his MS and PhD degrees (with distinction) in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Gdansk, Poland.

Since 1989 he has been a Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
He was Department Chair from 2004 to 2006
.

He has published over 360 journal and conference papers in the areas of neural networks, computational intelligence, data mining, image processing and VLSI circuits.

He also has authored or co-authored three books, including the 1992 PWS text Introduction to Artificial Neural Systems, co-edited the 1994 IEEE Press volume Computational Intelligence: Imitating Life, the 2000 MIT Press volume Knowledge-Based Neurocomputing, and co-edited eight 2006, 2008, and 2010 volumes in Springer Lecture Notes on Computer Science.

He has held visiting appointments at Princeton, Northeastern, Auburn, and at foreign universities in Australia, Chile, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Spain, South Africa and Taiwan.

He has delivered numerous invited and plenary conference presentations and seminars throughout the world.

In addition to his pioneering neural networks textbook, his most recognized achievements include:
extension of complex-valued neurons to associative memories and perception networks; sensitivity concepts applied to multilayer neural networks; application of networks for clustering, biomedical image classification and drug dosing; blind sources separation; and rule extraction as a tool for prediction of protein secondary structure. His other contributions include "lambda" learning rule of perceptron and invention of a switching hysteresis of NMOS and CMOS logic gates.

Dr. Zurada was an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, Part I and Part II, and served on the Editorial Board of the Proceedings of IEEE
.

From 1998 to 2003 he was the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks.

He is an Associate Editor of Neural Networks, Neurocomputing, Schedae Informaticae, International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Advisory Editor of International Journal of Computational Intelligence and Applications, Senior Editor of IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine, and Editor of Springer Natural Computing Book Series.

He has served the profession and the IEEE in various elected capacities, including as President of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society in 2004-05.

He has been member and Chair of various IEEE CIS and IEEE TAB committees, including the IEEE TAB Periodicals Committee and IEEE TAB Periodicals Review Committee
.

He was the Founding Chair of the NNC Neural Networks Technical Committee. In 2010-11 he serves as IEEE TAB Periodicals Committee Chair and in 2011 as IEEE PSPB Vice-Chair.

The Periodicals Committee is a policy formulating body and has oversight of over 140 periodicals published by IEEE.

Dr. Zurada has received a number of awards for distinction in research, teaching, and service.

In addition to several best paper awards, his honors include the 1993 Presidential Award for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity, 1997 Polish Ministry of National Education Award, 1999 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Golden Jubilee Medal, and the 2001 Presidential Distinguished Service Award for Service to the Profession
.

He is a Distinguished Speaker of IEEE CIS and IEEE Fellow.

In 2003 he was conferred the Title of National Professor by the President of Poland.

In 2004, 2006, and 2010 respectively, he received Honorary Professorships from Hebei University, from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, and from Sichuan University, Chengdu, all in China.

Since 2005 he is a Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and serves as a Senior Fulbright Specialist in 2006-11.
