Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivers 5.1 million vehicles in 2011 2012.01.07

Wolfsburg, Germany - January 06, 2012 - The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand closed 2011 with a new record: For the first time in a twelvemonth period, the brand delivered 5.1 million vehicles to customers worldwide. 13.1 percent rise in deliveries for full year 2011. For the first time ever, more than 1.72 million vehicles were delivered to customers in China.

“The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand made major gains last year thanks to a fresh, innovative and environmentally-friendly model range. Our new vehicles such as the Passat, Jetta and Beetle, as well as the up!, have made an excellent start in difficult market conditions – conditions that will remain challenging in 2012 – and significantly strengthened Volkswagen’s competitive position,” the Group Board Member for Sales, Christian Klingler, said in Wolfsburg on Friday.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars recorded a 16.6 percent overall increase in deliveries in the Asia / Pacific region during the past twelve months to 1.93 (1.65) million vehicles

In North America, Volkswagen grew deliveries to 496,700 (406,400; +22.2 percent) units and reported a 2.2 percent increase in South America, where 772,800 (756,500) vehicles were delivered

There was also a generally positive trend in deliveries in Europe, where the Volkswagen brand handed over 1.72 (1.55; +11.2 percent) million vehicles to customers, thus clearly outpacing the overall market (+3.6 percent).

Klingler was a Member of the Board of Management of Porsche Holding Österreich from 2004 to 2008.

In August 2008, Christian Klingler was named General Representative of Volkswagen AG and appointed to the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand where he is responsible for Sales, Marketing and After Sales.

Klingler has been the Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG responsible for Sales and Marketing since January 1, 2010.

Christian Klingler was born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1968.

Having graduated from the University of Innsbruck with a degree in business studies, Christian Klingler became Assistant to the Board of Management at Porsche Inter Auto in Austria from 1992 to 1993, specializing in retail sales.

Klingler subsequently held responsibility at Porsche Inter Auto for setting up import and retail networks for the VW and Audi brands in regions such as Slovakia.

As Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche Holding Österreich, Christian Klingler headed growth projects in from 1995 and held responsibility for establishing the activities of Porsche Holding Österreich on the French market.

During this period, Klingler was also instrumental in the acquisition of the PGA Group.

The PGA Group is headquartered in Paris and is an international sales partner for many different automobile brands in Europe.

Christian Klingler became a member of the Board of Management of the PGA Group in 1998, and was appointed its Chairman in 2002.

Under Klingler’s leadership, the company became the multi-brand automobile sales group with the highest turnover in Europe.

The company with its workforce of 9,000 at 300 locations sells some 210,000 new and used cars a year.

Average annual sales run at €4 billion.
