Microsoft Officially Welcomes Skype
In October Microsoft closed its acquisition of Skype and introduced it as a new business unit headed by Tony Bates, former Skype CEO.
Together Microsoft and Skype will continue to focus on connecting all people across all devices and accelerating efforts to transform real-time communications for consumers and enterprise customers.

New Windows Phone 7.5 Phones Hit the Market
Microsoft celebrated the availability of new Windows Phones by building a six-story phone in the middle of New York City demonstrating how the new devices put people back at the center of the smartphone experience.
Our slide show displayed the sleek and stylish new phones, while reviewers called Windows Phone 7.5 “an absolute home run” and hailed “Microsoft's elegant, daring, and simple take on smartphones.”

Fans lined up at stores around the world for the midnight launch of “Gears of War 3” in September.
In addition to stunning visuals, the game introduced features ranging from new maps and dedicated servers on Xbox LIVE to new modes of play and new characters, including, for the first time, playable female characters. At its core: a classic father and son story.

Kinect for Xbox 360 Brings Gaming to Kids with Disabilities
Among all the unexpected uses of Kinect for Xbox 360 this had to be the most heartwarming: Many children with disabilities are for the first time able to play games along with other kids.
By eliminating the controller, Kinect has removed barriers for those with mobility issues and with difficulties focusing on multiple buttons and a joystick.
As the mother of one youngster noted: “It gives her the chance to feel like a normal kid and have fun.”
